Edmonton Oilers Tickets
February 29, 2008 - The Edmonton Oilers are a professional hockey team from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. They are in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference in the NHL.
The team was established in 1972 under the name the Alberta Oilers. They were members of the World Hockey Association from 1972-1979, but changed their name in 1973 to the Edmonton Oilers. It wasn't until 1979 that they became members of the NHL making them one of the newer teams in the league.
GM and Head Coach, Glen Sather, put together a team of free-agents after the 1978-79, which gradually matured into one of the best teams in the league during the mid-late 80's. The team made it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in their first season, making a name for themselves from the get-go. They won a Stanley Cup in 1983-84, 1984-85, 1986-87, 1987-88, and 1989-90.
They have had seven Conference championship wins, and seven division championship wins (one during their time with the WHA). Their last Conference Championship was in 2005-06 against the Carolina Hurricanes. The seventh game ended with a Hurricane win of 3-1.
